Is not that amazing. From one thing there are so many.

From those so many there are also many drills which is even crazier but cool. That is what makes basketball so amazing. The diversity of it will always boggle my mind.

The next part of diversity are the type of players. You have 7 footers and taller to people who are under 6 feet tall. You have quick guys and you have pounders. Some games are fast and some are slow. There is just something in it for everyone.

That is how drills are. There is some drill or bit for everyone. That is what I hope you find on this web page.

Passing in basketball for years was always been just a simple two handed chest pass. If you made any other type of pass you would be pulled from the game. Since then the game has changed. Now if you can prove to your coach that you can make the simple pass first and then the complicated pass, he will allow to go out onto the court and tear it up with sick passes.

To get good at sick passes you have to work on your passing fundamentals first.

Basketball Passing Fundamentals

Two Handed Chest Pass-The most effective pass because it is the fastest way to advance the ball to teammates. Place each hand on either side of the ball and spread the fingers evenly. Fully extend your arms as you push the ball out from your chest and snap your wrists outward so that the back of your hands are now facing each other.

Two Handed Bounce Pass-Use the same grip and motion with this basketball pass as you did with the chest pass, but bounce the ball 2/3 of the way to the player.

Two-Handed Overhead Pass-Use the same grip and motion with this basketball pass as you did with the chest pass, but above your head (not up and back behind your head).

Once you have the fundamentals down, you can work on the fancy passes.

Of-the-Dribble-This is the quickest which gives you a big advantage over the defense. While you dribble, move your hand behind the ball and push it towards a teammate as a pass.

Baseball Pass-This is effective for long passes. Just use the same motion as passing a baseball.

Behind-the-Back Pass-This pass can be used off the dribble, standing still or while moving toward the. If you can deliver this pass correctly, it will make your defender look silly. To do this, cup the ball in your hand. Swing the ball behind your back, fingers pointed down and your thumb pointed toward your back. Release the ball by snapping your arm and a quick wrist and finger snap

Basketball Passing Drills

Wall Target-Find a wall you can paint or tape at least 3 “X” targets on. Position the targets at different heights. Now stand back about 10 feet back from wall and try to hit the targets with the ball. Practice all the different passes shown here from different positions and slowly move back as you get better.

“Offense sells tickets, but defense wins championships.” This is usually true because to win a championship, you have to win many games in succession and your offense may not always show up, but your defense will never let you down if you work hard. So why is it that you never see kids practicing their defensive drills in their driveway? Because they are either too flashy or do not know any. These individual defensive drills will make you the player your coach puts in to shut down the other teams stud.

Drills to build quickness

Lines-Jump back and forth, and side to side over lines with both feet and one foot at a time.

5 dots-Make five dots in an x shape. One in the middle and four around it. Do every combo and pattern imaginable jumping from dot to dot.

Bounding-This teaches you to bound on defense like all great defenders. In this go on one foot and jump for horizontal distances as far as you can and land on one foot, and then from that foot jump again as far as you can horizontally. And do it in random directions for short periods at a time. This is to train muscles, not exhaust them. So go very hard for a very short period of time.

Game Situations

Shuffle-Use the push slide step technique, not overlapping your feet. (The push slid step technique is push with one leg; slide the other one next to it, and the step.) Go back and forth across the lane staying in the defensive stance. While doing this, you must have one hand inches from the ground and one hand up. The one hand up is to be in the players face in game ready to block/distract shot while the low hand is the pesky hand preventing the crossover and therefore forcing the playing you are guarding one direction and always making him uncomfortable.

Closing Out-Start on the baseline and put a cone at the three point line as an imaginary person. Run at it and then shuffle when you get close with your but down and hands up being ready for the shot and drive. Make sure you do this like it is a game or you will be sloppy in the game like you are right now while practicing.

Ball Drill-Shuffle along the wall while passing it off the wall at the same time back to yourself. Remember in all these drills the most important thing is to stay in your defensive stance at all times and that it is about technique, not how fast you go.

“Good shooting covers over a multitude of mistakes.” This truth in basketball can be one of the biggest daggers to the opposing team in all of basketball. Everyone has experienced it. You are playing great defense forcing turnovers, getting good shots, dominating the boards, but you are still losing because you just cannot hit your shots and the other team just cannot seem to miss. To be that person who other teams hate because “he never misses”, you need positive repetition on all parts of your shot.

The first part of your shot you must drill is the stroke. This is the end part of your shot. You start with a 90 degree angle in your armpit and 90 degree angle at your elbow pit as if you are a waitress. Then you just go straight up with the release of the ball , then follow through.

The next part is the motion. In this you hold your arm out parallel to the ground as if asking for money. You then bring it to your shot pocket with your elbow pointing to the ground and your forearm parallel to the ground and then go up to the waitress position and then stroke the ball. Both these can be done anytime, anywhere. While watching TV, or for the first minute before you play. This motion is your shot and you will want to perfectly smooth. This motion though is just the guidance of the ball and nothing with it should change no mater where you are on the court.

The next part you must drill are your legs. To do this sit with your but on the edge of a chair, and stand up, using your motion form shot that you got from those other drills, and shoot it. This will teach you to use your legs for power and your arms just to guide it.

The nest step is footwork. Every basketball player must be able to shoot the ball going left, right foot, right, left foot, or a hop off both feet at the same time. To practice this, simply spin the ball out to you and do it.

The last drill you must do is simply positive repetition. Get out their and shoot a lot of good shots. Work on of the dribble and off the pass. Work on situation shots. Know your teams offense and work on those shots. The best individual drills I find are ones made be the individual. If you want to improve on this of your shooting, then work on that. Other ideas are to use cones as defenders, or to use them as if coming off picks. Having a partner to help you and encourage you is also very helpful with encouraging you and pushing you to new limits. You can run a variety of drills with them getting off more shots than you would have by yourself. In all these things remember to always have a lot of positive repetition.

To excel at anything, you must work hard at it. This is true in education, relationships, careers, and athletics, but the hard work must be focused. If you want to catch a fish you must fish in a place where there are fish. It does not matter if you are the best fisherman in the world who has gone through years of training, if you did not do the work to find out if the lake you are fishing in has fish, you will fail. Your work must be focused at all times and that is the key to basketball training. You must begin with the end in mind, fight for it, and then celebrate the small victories and then you will be successful.

Beginning with the end in mind is imagining where you want to be after you have put the hard work in. You must imagine what thing you will improve after this workout, practice, or game. You must also imagine where you want your gave to be 1 week, month, and year from now. Doing this will give you focus for all the hard work you are doing. It is said that the difference between those who are good and those who are great is that one of them sets goals to where they want to go. They do not just walk amelesly, they picture what they want and then go for it.

Once you have the end in mind, you have to work your butt off to get it. Getting better at basketball is not a walk in the park. It is like running a marathon. You have to slowly work your way up, or as others put it, you have to walk before you can run. This applies to basketball training in that you have to learn the fundamentals first. You have to be able to make a layup before you can make a jump shot. Also while you put the hard work in everyday, do not forget to focus on one things to improve on. Do not focus on everything at once. One day perfect your crossover. Make your crossover so good that it will move your defender . The next day focus on the next things . Video tape yourself on these things until every little thing is perfect. Each day do one thing perfect so that when you are shooting around, you can remember how you should be doing that crossover or whatever part of your game that is just a little off. Doing these things, you will get better slowly but surely, and remember that this is all apart of imagining what you want to be at the end of each practice, workout, or game.

Lastly, you must reward yourself. Give yourself treats along the way for when you reach your small daily goals and big season goals. Mostly, do not forget while training why you play basketball, because if you forget your purpose, what is the point.
